Gravity flow racking is a semi-automated storage facility. The goods are deposited from the high end, slid to the low end and taken out from the low end. During the sliding of the goods, a damper is set on the chute to control the sliding speed of the goods to keep within the safety range. There is a separator set at the shipping end of the slide, and the handling machinery can take out the goods at the first pallet position smoothly. Gravity flow racking is very environmentally friendly, all in the form of no power, no energy consumption, low noise, safe and reliable, and can operate at full capacity. Gravity flow racking systems belong to the pallet racking in warehouse storage racking. Gravity racking is one of the derivatives of beam racking. The structure of the racking is similar to that of beam racking, except that a roller-type track is placed on the beam and the track is inclined at 3-5°. The pallets are carried by forklift to the inlet of the racking, and the pallets are automatically slid from the inlet to the pick-up area at the other end using their own weight. Gravity pallet racking is suitable for storage operations with pallets as the carrier, and the goods are neatly stacked, providing a better solution for the storage of large and heavy goods, with a storage space utilization rate of more than 75%, and only one inlet and outlet is required. Such racks should not be too high, generally within 6 meters, and the weight of a single pallet of goods generally be within 1000 kg, otherwise, its reliability and operability will be reduced. The gravity flow racking system belongs to the FIFO storage method.
The design and installation of gravity flow racking are more complicated. The total depth of the rack should not be too long, the depth is too long then will lead to the unavailable up and down free space will be larger, and the controllability of the slide will be poor, easy to cause the slide not smooth, the pallet of goods overturned, etc… In order to make the pallet goods slide to the bottom when the impact force is too large and not overturned, should be set up at the lowest part of the ramp buffer device and pick-up separation device.

With the continuous development and maturity of gravity flow pallet rack technology in China, the demand for gravity flow racking warehouses is also increasing, except that due to the relatively high cost of gravity racking, the application rate of small business warehouses in China is not very high.
The slope of the chute is too small, the pallet will not slide or slide smoothly; the slope is too large, the pallet slides too fast and will cause impact or tipping. Therefore, the size of the slope should be reasonably selected. In addition, the size of the slope also depends on the material of the pallet bottom, for wooden pallets, generally desirable 3.5% to 3.0%; for plastic pallets, desirable 2.5% to 2.0%; for steel pallets desirable 2.0% to 1.5%. In the actual warehouse design, the best choice of slope should be determined after detailed calculation and experiment.
Both types of racks rely on the weight of the goods themselves to let the goods slide from one end of the rack to the other, the difference is that gravity flow racking is usually used to store goods loaded with pallets, while carton flow racks are often used for cartons and other small packages of wrapped goods.
